The Atami Fireworks Festival in the coastal town of Atami in Shizuoka Prefecture is a fireworks display held regularly throughout the year, not only in the summer months. It is renowned throughout Japan. Atami sits on the coast in a natural basin created by the surrounding mountains, which means the explosions echo around the town, increasing the impact and drama. The climax of the show is called the “Niagara Falls in the Sky."

Description :
Atami Station (熱海駅, Atami-eki) is a railway station in the city of Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, jointly operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central).
Due to its location on the side of a steep hill, Atami Station is built on several levels. On the lowest level is the station building itself, with automated ticket machines, Suica automated turnstiles and a "Midori no Madoguchi" staffed ticket office. The Tōkaidō Main Line and Ito Line share one side platform and two island platforms with five tracks connected by an underground passage to the station building. The Tōkaidō Shinkansen with two opposing side platforms is one level higher, and is connected to the lower platforms by an underground passage.
In fiscal 2017, the local portion of the station was used by an average of 10,653 passengers daily (boarding passengers only) and the Shinkansen portion of the station was used by 4805 passengers daily (boarding passengers only).
The Atami Fireworks Festival is an historic fireworks display that first commenced in 1952. It is held not only in summer but more than 10 times annually throughout the entire year, an event unique to Atami. Set in Atami Bay using the three sides of the surrounding mountains in the topographic form of grinding mortar, the exploding fireworks reverberate creating sound effects that resemble a large stadium. The full impact of some 5000 fireworks set off in the night sky, reflected in the ocean water is a sight of flickering beauty not to be missed. The finale of a sky-like “Niagara Falls” is a must-see. The display runs for 25 minutes from 20:20 to 20:45. See website for dates.
